Privacy policy

Last updated 15 October 2026

Nosy helps you look after your dog or cat. To do that it handles some of your personal data. This page says what we collect, why, who else receives it, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it.

Who is responsible

The controller is [legal name of the person or company], [street, postcode, city, country]. Contact for anything about your data: [privacy@your-domain].

We have not appointed a data protection officer, because the law doesn't require one for what we do.

What we collect

Your account

  • When you first open Nosy it creates a private guest account tied to a random ID stored on your phone. No name or email is needed.
  • If you save your account, your email address (or the address Sign in with Apple shares, which can be a private relay address). We store it encrypted.
  • Sign-in codes we email you, and session tokens that keep you signed in.

Your pet's profile and record

  • Name, species, breed, sex, birth date, weight, and what you tell us about health, conditions, medications, care dates, activity and food.
  • Household answers you choose to give for coaching (for example hours home alone, children or other pets at home, travel plans).
  • The town and country you enter for seasonal and weather advice, and the approximate coordinates we look up for it.
  • Reminders, weights, logs, training plans and sessions, and the results of checks.

Photos, documents and messages

  • Photos you take or pick for a check, the chat or your pet's profile.
  • Vet records and invoices you upload. These can contain your name, address or payment details — please cover anything you don't want to share.
  • What you write in the chat, and Nosy's replies.
  • While Live guidance is on in the camera, a small, low-resolution preview every few seconds to help you frame the shot. We don't store these previews.

We remove location and other metadata (EXIF) from photos before we store them or send them for analysis.

Location

When you open Nearby, the emergency screen or the poison screen and allow location, your phone shares its position, rounded to about 1 km, so we can list nearby vets and places. We don't keep it with your account; search results are cached for a few hours by area, without any link to you.

Purchases

If you subscribe to Nosy+, Apple handles the payment. We receive the subscription status (through RevenueCat) so the app can unlock Nosy+.

Technical data

  • Your device ID, IP address (briefly, to protect the service from abuse), and counts of checks and chat messages for the free allowance.
  • Server logs we need to run and fix the service.

We don't use advertising, tracking or analytics tools in the app, and we don't sell your data. Reminders are scheduled on your phone; we don't send push notifications.

Nosy's AI

Nosy's analysis and chat are generated by AI models (Claude) from Anthropic, PBC, in the USA. Before anything is sent, the app tells you this and asks for your permission. When you agree, Nosy sends Anthropic what is needed to answer you:

  • the photos you take or pick, and Live guidance previews;
  • your chat messages and the vet records you upload;
  • your pet's profile and health record (never your name or email).

Anthropic processes this on our behalf to produce Nosy's answer, keeps it only for a limited time under its commercial terms, and doesn't use it to train its models. You can turn AI processing off at any time in Settings › AI processing; the parts of Nosy that don't need AI (your record, reminders, guides, training, nearby vets) keep working.

Nosy is an AI, not a vet. Its assessments can be wrong and are not a veterinary diagnosis. Please don't send photos of people or information about your own health.

Why we use your data (legal bases)

  • To provide Nosy — your account, your pet's record, checks, chat, reminders, Nearby, Nosy+ (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, contract). Sending data to the AI also rests on the permission you give in the app, which you can withdraw.
  • To keep Nosy secure and fair — preventing abuse, rate limits, the free allowance, error logs (Art. 6(1)(f), our legitimate interest in a safe, working service).
  • To meet legal duties — for example tax records for purchases, which Apple keeps as the seller (Art. 6(1)(c)).

You don't have to give us anything beyond what a feature needs. Without the AI permission, checks and the chat aren't available; everything else still works.

Who else receives data

We use these providers. They process data only on our instructions (processors) unless noted.

Some of these companies are based in the USA. Where personal data leaves the EU we rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses in each provider's data processing agreement.

How long we keep it

  • Your account, pets, records, photos, documents and chats: until you delete them or your account.
  • When you delete your account in the app, we delete all of it straight away — rows, photos and documents — and sign you out everywhere. Encrypted backups can hold deleted data for up to [N days] before they expire.
  • Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes; session tokens after 30 days. A guest account's last session token is kept for up to 400 days after that, so a guest can come back to their pets. A guest account that has not been used for 400 days is deleted, with its data. If you use Sign in with Apple, we keep Apple's sign-in token, encrypted, until you delete your account, only to revoke it at Apple then.
  • Server error logs: [N days].

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected, deleted or handed to you in a portable format, restrict or object to how we use it, and withdraw any permission you gave. In the app:

  • Settings › Export my data gives you your data as a file.
  • Settings › Danger zone › Delete account deletes everything.
  • Settings › AI processing turns the AI permission off.

For anything else, write to [privacy@your-domain]. You can also complain to a data protection authority — in Austria the Datenschutzbehörde (dsb.gv.at) — or the one where you live.

Security

Data travels encrypted (TLS). In our database we also encrypt:

  • your email;
  • what you write about your pet's conditions, medications and worries, and your answers when you set up training;
  • the text of check results, story notes, care suggestions and reminders;
  • your chats, training notes and documents' contents.

Photos and documents are only reachable through signed links, issued to your own account, that expire.

Children

Nosy is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change how we use your data, we'll update this page and, for important changes, tell you in the app first.
